Description: De legende zegt de zweep-armen-will kan zin een ziel vertrekken, en het kan vastleggen terwijl het vlucht. Dit wordt gebruikt als een plot apparaat in H. P. Lovecraft's verhaal The Dunwich Horror. Dit is waarschijnlijk gerelateerd aan een eerder Indiaanse en algemene Amerikaanse folk overtuiging dat het zingen van de vogels een voorteken is dood is. Dit is het nummer van een Oost-whippoorwill (Antrostomus vociferus) opgenomen in een bos van New Hampshire. Verscheidene van deze vogels hebben gezongen rond mijn huis bij nacht voor de afgelopen paar weken en één kreeg dicht genoeg om een goede opname van een mike geplaatst op de veranda.
