James Cannell is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based just outside Norwich, UK, who specialises in music for Film, TV and Video Games
After his parents enrolled him in guitar lessons at secondary school and allowed him access to their local video and game rental shop, he became infatuated with film and video game music, finding favourites such as American comedy “Home Alone”, supernatural comedy “Ghostbusters” and science fiction action film “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”. These films, along with video games such as “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Super Mario Brothers” inspired him to become a composer.
His music draws influence from the rich tapestry of film and video game scores, combining elements of tradition orchestral and hybrid synthetic genres to create imaginative and diverse soundscapes.
He was educated at Essex University and graduated with a First-Class honours in Film Score Composition and won an Excellent Achievement in Music Award, studying modern film scoring techniques, harmony and conducting with Jason Frederick, Mark Roberts, Phil Toms and Jim Davies. In 2021 he decided to take his passion further and began studying a MA Orchestration for Film, Games & Television at Thinkspace Education
Alongside being an orchestrator and composer, James also runs his own sample library company, Soundemic Studio Samples. This is due for launch in 2023.
He lives with his wife, Chloe and their son. He has his own home studio and an in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge technology and modern sampling techniques.
